British Triathletes share their golden training and nutrition tips from their base in Loughborough.

British Triathletes Faye McClelland, Tom Bishop and Sophie Coldwell trained at the British Triathlon Federation base in Loughborough followed by a discussion on elite nutrition with Dr Kevin Currell, Head of Performance Nutrition, English Institute of Sport & British Triathlon.

The three athletes are training ahead of a busy summer of sport that will likely see McClelland compete for the first ever Paratriathlon Paralympic gold medal. Tom Bishop narrowly missed out on a place in Rio, but knows he must maintain his peak physical condition for future competitions. Sophie Coldwell meanwhile is one of the Britain’s most exciting triathlon prospects and is already preparing for Tokyo in 2020.

Dr Currell has worked with the Great Britain Triathlon team for over six years and was part of the support team which helped the athletes achieve the sport’s first Olympic medals at London 2012. Following training, he gave Faye, Tom and Sophie a refresher on pre and post exercise nutrition to help them reach their natural best.

Currell reiterated in the nutrition workshop that all the hard work on the track, in the pool or on a bike will be undermined by not having a nutrition plan in place as stamina and recovery will be seriously compromised by not having a balanced diet, especially lean proteins.
